Thoughts on the exhibition – light, color, sound (2008)
(Even though my exhibition has long been over, this entry is still valid for those who are interested in the connection between seeing and listening, painting and music)
Light, colour, sound, who is not fascinated by these three phenomena? They are associated with vibrations, waves, and perhaps moods, but they are difficult to grasp in all their mysterious immateriality.
In our everyday language, we often mix them in words such as “bright red, brightly colourful”, “shrill, screaming colours” … In painting we encounter “colour shades” and “colour shadows”. When sound becomes music – and this is primarily meant by sound in this exhibition – “sound colours” and “light or dark sound images” can arise.
As you know, there are people for whom the combination of sound and colour, music and image are so strong that they see a colour in a tone or hear a tone at the same time (synaesthesia), which is now an enrichment rather than a confusion of the senses. This affects only a few people. More often, the most common or usual phenomenon occurring is rather that people perceive light in certain sounds or musical passages. And quite often we want people to have something for the ear as well as for the eye.
For this reason, image sequences in movies, advertising and computer technology are “music” or “converted” into sound. In addition, scientists and artists are often involved, often separated, sometimes in collaboration with the interfaces of light, colour, sound. Musicians compose pieces of music (for example, Mussorgsky’s paintings of an exhibition). On the other hand, attempts were made to transform the sound into musical images (Kandinsky, Klee, Kupka …) to mixed forms (Yves Klein, John Cage …)
Nowadays you try to visualize sound with experiments, installations,events, video clips, computer technology … but I would like to stay with my pictures.
I have been dealing with the following questions for a long time:
What unites sound and music?
How can I play music in a picture? Does it go far at all ? Where can I find parallels and points of contact between dynamic music and actually static painting? But where do the similarities end?
The answer to these “old” questions is always different and new; because the artistic realization is as individual and subjective as the personal perception and remains an attempt like the answer to the questions: What is art? What is love? What is life? And the visitor will also find his own answers …[ Google translate – I missed the English version]

for fear of change or fear of falling?
Or does it show faith by becoming

My favourite happens to be the first photograph for its purity.. go visit there
I like to shoot series, in this case a series of photos of mailboxes. I’ve done this with doors windows and other things. Once there are enough photos I can cull them further until I have a coherent group of photographs of both the same quality and direction. Sometimes it’s a bit more challenging than it seems. It’s like collecting things, you don’t always find what you want and it can take some time until you have a sufficient number of photos that fit your criteria.
